A new iPhone setting could eat into your data allowance. This could lead to anyone using iOS9 receiving huge bills or being cut off from using the web if you don't have an unlimited internet data package.

The problem could affect anybody who upgraded to the new Apple iOS 9 operating system. This applies to all devices with 3G/4G enabled that run iOS9, not just the new iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.

Apple says more than half of users worldwide have upgraded to iOS9 since it was made available on September 16th.

The feature that can cost you a fortune is called Wi-Fi Assist and basically switches your mobile from a weak wi-fi signal to a cellular 3G/4G data service automatically.

If you're on a mobile tariff which doesn't include unlimited data, it's crucial that you check your settings, otherwise you could get a very nasty surprise when your mobile bill comes through.

The trouble is that it may eat up your data plan without you even knowing it, and may land you with an astronomical bill if you're abroad.

The good news is you can TURN IT OFF.

You can find Wi-Fi Assist in settings under Settings - Mobile Data and then scroll right to the bottom of the screen, where you have the option to switch it off.

While this is a relatively new problem, many iPhone users have already been caught out.

Fantastic,they are life savers.

I Contacted them at 5 pm on a Thursday night, they arranged a meeting Friday morning with all the relevant bodies their because my case was the following Monday .I can't sing their praises high enough they contacted the courts same afternoon. Fantastic response, I avoided bankruptcy on the Monday and was given time to arrange an Iva. I risked losing my home,my mother and fathers home all hope seemed lost until I made that fateful phone call. I can now sleep at night.
